Important Opportunities:
 
10th Graders: PSAT
* Required for the National Merit Scholarship and National Achievement programs, specifically for African-American students.
* Not many students take this test, but it will show you your weaknesses and provide good practice for taking later standardized
 tests. Test is given in the 10th Grade during Fall Break, cost is approximately $11.
   
11th & 12th Graders: ACT:
* This test should be taken by every 11th grader in the Spring, preferably after completing Algebra II. Plan on taking the
  ACT again in the Fall of your Senior year. The cost is approximately $28 and money is available to take the test one 
   time for free. Your high school counselor has the registration packets and the separate application to take the ACT for
   free. 
* The Christian Co. Public School System offers four free practice workshops before you take the ACT.
Contact your high school counselor, now given at each high school.
 
SAT:
* This test is not required by most colleges in our immediate area. However, if you intend to apply    to a college outside of Kentucky,
 you may want to take this test in the Spring of your Junior year. See your HS counselor for details.
 
Important Summer Programs:
* If you have excellent grades and a specific interest in a particular subject or profession (engineering, medicine . . .), see your
   high school counselor or contact a JWSP Advocate. You may be eligible for a 3-4 week summer program for high school 
   students offered by many colleges. You would live in college dorms for the summer and scholarships may exist.

For Juniors
* This is a State sponsored program for strong academic and well rounded Juniors interested in spending 5 weeks during the
   during the summer before their Senior year at a residential college in Kentucky. In 2004, the program was held at Centre College  
  and Eastern Kentucky University. This is a very competitive program but provides an insight of what college may be like.

   with similar academically motivated students, and is a plus when applying to colleges your Senior year.

* State program for students with a with a talent in dancing, acting, instrumental music, vocal music, creative writing, visual arts,
  and future architects. See your counselor, for Summer, 2005  program. Must apply in the Fall, and the program is free.

   your Freshman year to become acquainted with the qualifications, deadlines, and amounts.
